mms://air.hihit.net/studio/20091016lt.wma

In today’s lesson, we’re going to learn about a new truck. This should be very interesting.
Here it is today’s Find It question: where were Tom and Jack?

Information Desk

Conversation A
Emma: Where were you guys?
Tom: We were at the car show, and it was fantastic.
Emma: Great! It just starts today, right?
Jack: Right. We were some of the first people there.
Amy: Why did you go right away?
Tom: Amy, it’s a car show, guys like cars.
Emma: Girls like cars too.
Tom and Jack were at the car show.

Conversation B
Tom: I know, Emma, and I knnow that you know a lot about cars.
Emma: Thank you, Tom. Now tell me all about it. Did you see the newest volkswagen
Jack: We sure did. It is such a modern new car.
Tom: And,,,,,, Jack bought a truck.
Amy: What? I didn’t even know you wanted a truck.
Emma: Can you drive a truck?
Amy: Do you have enough money for gas and repairs?

Conversation C
Tom: Don’t worry. Jack will never need to fix this truck.
Emma: All cars and trucks will have problems at some time.
Jack: Do you want to see it?
Tom: Show them.
Jack: Here it is.
Amy: That’s a toy truck.
Emma: It’s not a real truck.
Jack: I know. I wish it were real, and then you could be my passenger.
Amy: Uh, Jack. Are you OK?
Jack: Of course. I’m the proud owner of this toy truck.

Information Desk
在第一段中，Emma问了where were you guys? 当然,Tom在回答时也用了同样的句式we were at car show.
第一段对话中，right away的意思如同right now,at once,都是立刻、马上的意思。

Calendar Phrase
Would you like to take it for a drive?

Tom: That’s a long time. It takes that long to fill up a truck?
Jack: Well, it was a big truck.
Tom: I’m glad filling up my car doesn’t take that long.
Jack: I’m glad I ride a bike now. I don’t have to fill up my bike with gas.

Conversation B
Tom: You do need to fill up your tires with air.
Jack: Yeah, but air is cheaper than gas. So, where is the car show?
Tom: It should right here at the mall.
Jack: Let’s look at that ad. The car show is right here in the mall.
Tom: Then where are all the cars?
Jack: Be careful when you read, Tom. See this. The show starts tomorrow.

Conversation C
Jack: Do you ever dream of driving a sports car? Would you like to see the new cars for 2010? Come to the mall’s car show. You can sit in the driver’s seat and put your hands on the steering wheel. Put on your seat belt and consider driving off a new car.
Tom: You can also see pickup trucks and vans. When: Friday, October 16 – Sunday, October 18.
Jack: Where? Inside the mall. Admission is free.
Tom: Note: There are no keys in the cars.
It starts from Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18.

Today we continue to learn how to talk about cars.
Now here is your Find It question: what does Jack remember from the trip?

Conversation A
Tom: Jack. I’m so glad to see you.
Jack: Really? I’m glad to see you too, Tom.
Tom: Where are all the(听成of了) cars?
Jack: What are you talking about?
Tom: The car(听成cars了) show. The mall is having a car show this week.
Jack: Oh yeah. I heard about that. Is the show only for cars?
Tom: What do you mean?
Jack: Will they also have trucks and vans?

Conversation B
Tom: Are you interested in trucks and vans?
Jack: Yes. Especially trucks. I used to want to be a truck driver.
Tom: Are you serious?
Jack: When I was little, I love looking at the big wheels on trucks.
Tom: Some trucks have a lot of wheels.
Jack: And the wheels were sometimes bigger than me.
Tom: You are kind of short.
Jack: I’m just being funny.
I used to want to be XXX.

Conversation C
Jack: My friend in college had a part time job as a truck driver. I went on a trip with him once.
Tom: Did he let you drive?(后两个词没听清)
Jack: No. You need a special license to drive a big truck.
Tom: What do you remember from trip?
Jack: We paid a lot for gas.
He remembers paying a lot for gas.
本段还讲到一个旅行的用法,go on a trip，跟take a trip意思相同。

This week we’re learning how to talk about cars.
Here it is your Find It question: what does Pam teach Jason?

Information Desk
1、 ad(advertisement) 名词n.

Conversation A
Jason: Wow! This is great!
Pam: Jason, what are you looking at?
Jason: It’s an ad for a car show.
Pam: Oh, yeah. There’s a car show at the mall this week.
Jason: Dose the mall ever have the motorcycle shows?
Pam: Sometimes. Do you like motorcycles?
Jason: Yes, I do. But they’re expensive.
要记清一些用法,ad for a car show.

Conversation B
Pam: Do you want a motorcycle or a car?
Jason: Both. This sports car is pretty.
Pam: We usually don’t use the word “pretty” for cars.（注意此处的for）
Jason: Really? But it is pretty. What can I say?
Pam: How about “this sports car is cool”?
Jason: OK. this sports car is cool. Thanks Pam.
Pam: Tell me more about this cool car.
Pam teaches Jason that we don’t usually use the word “pretty” for cars.

Conversation C
Jason: It has a big engine.
Pam: So the car has a lot of power?
Jason: Yes, it is a very fast car.
Pam: What kind of car is this?
Jason: Pam, it’s a Porsche(保时捷汽车). Look at it.
Pam: A Porsche? Oh, yes. I don’t know much about cars.
Jason: That’s OK. I can teach you.
Pam: Yes, you can be my teacher.
Jason: I like that.
I don’t know much about XXX.
在对话B中，Jason说到But it is pretty.
